A spiritual journey to Dudh Kunda Lake in the Everest Region, combining solitude, culture, and panoramic Himalayan views
The Dudh Kunda Trek – 10 Days with Alpine Vista Treks is a peaceful and culturally rich Himalayan journey to the sacred Dudh Kunda Lake (4,560m) in Nepal’s beautiful Solu region. Known as the “Milky Lake” and believed to be blessed by Lord Shiva, Dudh Kunda is a revered pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists. Unlike the crowded Everest Base Camp routes, the Dudh Kunda Trek leads you through peaceful mountain scenery, remote villages, and the genuine daily life of the Sherpa community.

The adventure begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Phaplu, followed by trekking through charming Sherpa villages such as Ringmu and Junbesi, lush rhododendron and pine forests, terraced farmland, and alpine pastures. Along the trail, trekkers enjoy breathtaking views of Numbur Himal, Karyolung, and surrounding snow-capped Himalayan peaks before reaching the serene Dudhkunda Lake, where the peaceful Himalayan atmosphere creates a truly unforgettable highlight of the journey.
As a Nepal-based local trekking company, Alpine Vista Treks combines deep Himalayan expertise, certified guides, and carefully planned logistics to deliver safe and authentic trekking experiences. Our government-licensed guides are trained in altitude awareness, first aid, and mountain risk management, ensuring your trek is safe, informative, and enjoyable from start to finish.
We handle all essential logistics, including airport transfers, permits, accommodation, meals during the trek, porter service, and complete trip coordination so you can focus on the adventure. To enhance comfort, we provide sleeping bags and duffel bags, and trekking clothing and additional gear can be provided on request or arranged for rental in Kathmandu. Our guides also carry a comprehensive first-aid and altitude safety kit throughout the trek.

Accommodation during the Dudh Kunda Trek is provided in local teahouses and lodges, offering a comfortable and welcoming environment after each trekking day. Rooms are typically simple but clean, furnished with basic beds, warm blankets, and shared bathroom facilities. Dining areas are cozy and heated, providing a warm atmosphere to relax, socialize, and enjoy your meals.
At higher altitudes, such as Sarsar Beni, accommodation may be more basic due to the remoteness of the region, and in some seasons, tented camps may be used. Despite the simplicity, the hospitality of the local families and lodge owners adds a charming cultural experience to your stay. In Kathmandu, accommodation is in a well-appointed hotel offering modern amenities to help you rest comfortably before and after the trek.
Meals during the Dudh Kunda Trek are designed to provide trekkers with nutritious, hygienic, and energy-rich food essential for high-altitude trekking. In Kathmandu, breakfast is included at your hotel. Throughout the trek, you will dine in local teahouses, where the menu typically features a variety of home-cooked dishes.
Expect traditional Nepali meals such as dal bhat (lentils, rice, vegetables), along with soups, noodles, pasta, fried rice, potato dishes, Tibetan bread, eggs, and seasonal vegetables. Hot drinks like tea, coffee, and ginger lemon honey are available daily and help keep you warm in the mountain chill. All meals are freshly prepared using local ingredients, offering a satisfying combination of nutrition and authentic flavor. Alpine Vista Treks ensures your dining experience is wholesome, filling, and suitable for long trekking days.
Transportation for the Dudh Kunda Trek is arranged to ensure comfort, safety, and scenic enjoyment throughout your journey. The trip begins with a private Jeep or tourist vehicle ride from Kathmandu to Phaplu, the starting point of the trek. This drive takes around 9–10 hours and offers beautiful views of terraced fields, rivers, and rural hill settlements. Although long, the road journey provides a gradual transition from the bustling capital to the peaceful mountain environment of Solu.
On completion of the trek, the same overland route is used to return to Kathmandu. Travelers who prefer a quicker option may choose a domestic flight from Kathmandu to Phaplu, available seasonally and subject to weather conditions. No matter which mode of transportation you choose, Alpine Vista Treks ensures a safe, reliable, and well-coordinated transfer experience.
The Dudhkunda region is home to a rich variety of flora and fauna, offering nature lovers a delightful chance to explore Nepal’s diverse ecosystems. As you trek through the lower altitudes, you will pass through lush forests filled with rhododendron, oak, pine, and fir trees. During spring, the hillsides come alive with colorful rhododendron blooms, creating one of the most picturesque sights on the trail. Higher up, the vegetation shifts to alpine shrubs, grasses, and hardy plants adapted to cold, rocky terrain.
The region is also home to numerous wildlife species. Trekkers may catch glimpses of Himalayan thars, musk deer, and occasionally the shy red panda in the lower forests. Birdlife is abundant, with sightings of pheasants, eagles, Himalayan monals, snow pigeons, and various mountain songbirds. The combination of dense forests, high-altitude meadows, and pristine mountain environments makes this trek an excellent opportunity for wildlife and nature observation.
