Major Attractions of Manaslu Circuit Trek

1. Larkya La Pass (5160m)

Larkya La Pass is the undisputed climax of our Manaslu Circuit trek. This 5160m, high-altitude pass is considered a difficult pass to traverse. However, this long and steady climb will lead to the summit, which will be an extremely rewarding experience. The reward will be the breathtaking panorama of the snow-capped mountains that cover the horizon. From Manaslu to distant Annapurna, the views will get brilliant. Crossing this haven is a lifetime achievement.

2. Mount Manaslu (8,163m)

Mt. Manaslu serves as the world’s eighth-highest peak. Standing at 8163m, this mountain is the majestic centerpiece of our trek. The journey will offer a complete circle of this mountain. Known as the “killer mountain”, the views of the peak will shine from the stops like Lho and Shyala. The mountain’s iconic double peak summit will dominate the skyline. A constant and awe-inspiring presence of this mountain will provide a powerful backdrop to the trekkers and remind them of nature’s scale.

3. Pungyen Gompa

Pungyan Gompa is a peaceful and sacred Buddhist monastery located in the Manaslu region of Nepal, beneath the majestic Manaslu Himal. Surrounded by dramatic glaciers and alpine landscapes, this ancient monastery is an important spiritual site for local Tibetan Buddhist communities. A short side trip to Pungyen Gompa during the Manaslu Circuit Trek offers trekkers a serene cultural experience, stunning mountain views, and insight into traditional Himalayan monastic life.

4. Sama-Gaon (3,530m)

Sama Gaon is the most important and largest village in our trek. Perched in Nupri Valley, the village serves as an essential acclimatization hub. This village lies on a plain wide beneath the towering face of Manaslu. The setting of Sama Gaon is majestic as well. This village will provide trekkers with an important cultural immersion featuring the large monastery, traditional stone houses, and serves as the perfect base for the side hikes.

5. Birendra Lake

The lake is a stunning turquoise glacial lake located near Samagaun in the Manaslu region of Nepal. Fed by the Manaslu Glacier, the lake is known for its crystal-clear water and peaceful surroundings. It can be a Top Side Trips on the Manaslu Circuit Trek. Birendra Lake is a popular acclimatization hike during the Manaslu Circuit Trek, offering beautiful views and a serene natural setting beneath Mount Manaslu.

6. Rich Tibetan-Buddhist Culture

The Manaslu region is one of the major restricted areas of Nepal. This region is rightly restricted to keep the local Tibetan-Buddhist culture preserved. As we ascend, we will enter the home of the people of Tibetan and descend into the Nupri Valley. Nupri Valley’s trail is lined with carved mani walls and prayer wheels. The monasteries are perched on the hillsides and villages like Samdo. The rich Tibetan-Buddhist culture will enhance the Manslu Circuit trek’s experience.

7. The Budhi Gandaki Gorge.

Most of our journey will be on the Budhi Gandaki gorge. Especially on our first half of the trek, this deep and narrow valley will provide an excellent aura of landscapes and watersheds. This trail is a natural engineering marvel perched on the side of sheer cliffs. The Budhi Gandaki river gorge astonishes the trekkers as it shows the magnificent art of nature. This turquoise river and its riverbed, along with the gorge, will make our Manaslu Circuit Trek an unrivaled trek among others.

8. Samdo Village (3,860m)

Samdo serves as the last major settlement before our high pass crossing. This village provides a stark and beautiful glimpse into the high-altitude life. While we are located in a wide and dry valley, the village will feel very close to the Tibetan border. The atmosphere will be lively and wild throughout the day. One of our major resting points before we cross Larkya La Pass in the Manaslu Circuit Trek promotes local life and traditional values.

9. Bimthang Valley (3,720m)

After crossing Larkya La Pass and descending, we will reach the village of Bhimthang. The stepping at Bhimthang will feel like stepping into a hidden paradise. This wide and flat alpine valley is a rewarding experience for the Manaslu Circuit Trek adherents. Also, this village will be the perfect place to recover after a long day ascending and descending on Larkya La Pass. It is our major attraction as it will provide the trekkers a great cultural experience and a landscape of insights.

Why Choose the Manaslu Circuit Trek?

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is a true wilderness adventure without having to sacrifice the teahouse accommodations. This trek perfectly balances the raw and untouched beauty of the Himalayas. The trail will take us to the restricted region, avoiding the commercial crowds, which will be a secluded and rewarding experience compared to the Annapurna or Everest region trails.

  • We will enjoy the peaceful trails with the enchanting and rewarding Himalayan views of Mount Manaslu and its neighbours.
  • We will start and end the journey with the overland drives; this will eliminate the chance of us tangling because of delayed or cancelled flights.
  • We will walk through the restricted villages where we can enjoy the culturally pure and preserved cultures and traditions.
  • We will experience the most dramatic landscape change in Nepal. The transitioning subtropical jungles and high-altitude snow deserts are amazing to the eye.

Manaslu Trek Permits, Cost & Itinerary 2026–2027 (Latest Rules Updates)

Planning a trek in the Manaslu Region requires understanding its updated permit system, cost structure, and current trekking regulations. Since the region lies in a restricted conservation zone around Mount Manaslu, all trekkers must follow government rules designed to protect both the environment and local culture.

Permits Required (2026–2027)

To trek the Manaslu Circuit, you need the following permits:

  • Restricted Area Permit (RAP) – mandatory for the upper Manaslu region (Jagat to Samdo)
  • Manaslu Conservation Area Project Permit (MCAP) – for conservation entry
  • Annapurna Conservation Area Project Permit (ACAP) – required after crossing Larke Pass into the Annapurna region
  • Community Entry & Local Fee (New Update 2026–2027) – some villages along the Manaslu trail now apply small community support fees. These fees directly contribute to local infrastructure, trail maintenance, porter shelters, waste management, and cultural preservation programs managed by local rural municipalities.

Best time to do Manaslu Circuit Trek

Spring (March to May)

For the Manaslu Circuit Trek, spring is one of the magical times. The arrival of the spring season marks the end of winter and the awakening of the Himalayas. The season spans from March to May. This season provides the vibrant explosion of wildflowers throughout the season. The lower trails along the Budhi Gandaki gorge will come alive with the blooming rhododendrons in the shades of red, pink, and white.

The weather is also generally stable, and the temperatures are trekking-friendly. However, there will be a slight chance of passing showers, but the experience will not be ruined. Spring for Manaslu Circuit Trek is also the best time for spotting musk deer, Himalayan Tahr, and other wild animals. Overall, a fantastic experience to be part of.

Autumn (September to November)

Autumn is considered the premier season for the Manaslu Circuit. This season is primarily known for its unparalleled visibility that occurs from late September to November. This season spans from September to November between the monsoon and winter in Nepal. The temperatures are moderate with a cool breeze in the daytime, but become cold at night. The Larkya La Pass will be dry enough to have a comfortable crossing.

This season also collides with Nepal’s biggest festivals, Dashain and Tihar. You can have a great festive environment and vibes in the settlements. The restricted region will still be far less crowded, although this is the peak trekking season in Nepal. However, there will be some fellow trekkers on the sight. For the Manaslu Circuit Trek, autumn is an unrivaled season.

Difficulty of the Manaslu Circuit Trek

Manaslu Circuit Trek is rated moderately challenging. The trek is significantly difficult as it is in a remote region and does not have markings and pavements like the commercial route. Our Manaslu Circuit Trek route itinerary has longer hiking days, steep ascents, and descents. The pass crossing is also one of the longest and most strenuous. We only have basic teahouse facilities and require a formidable physical fitness for this trek. Many trekkers ask how challenging this route is, so we’ve created a complete guide explaining the Manaslu Circuit Trek difficulty level and who this trek is best suited for.

Snow Navigation and High Pass Wind Dynamics

A hyper-focused safety article detailing the mechanical and meteorological difficulties of crossing Larkya La when covered in snow, a condition highly applicable to late Autumn, Winter, and early Spring trekkers. The analysis should explain how traditional trail markers become entirely obscured by drifts, how packed snow turns into treacherous, slick ice on the steep descent to Bhimtang, and why the wind-chill factor at 5,106 meters poses a legitimate, rapid frostbite risk, underscoring the absolute necessity of blindly following a local guide’s navigational directives.

Manaslu Circuit Trek 2026: Why It’s Nepal’s Top Sustainable Adventure

The Manaslu Circuit Trek 2026 is emerging as one of Nepal’s most respected and meaningful trekking experiences, offering a rare combination of untouched Himalayan landscapes, cultural authenticity, and environmentally responsible tourism. While popular routes like Everest Base Camp and the Annapurna Circuit continue to attract large numbers of trekkers, Manaslu stands apart for its quieter trails, controlled access, and strong focus on sustainability.

This classic Himalayan circuit circles Mount Manaslu (8,163m), the eighth-highest peak in the world, taking trekkers through a dramatic range of landscapes—from subtropical river valleys and terraced farmlands to deep gorges, alpine forests, and high-altitude glacial terrain. Each section of the journey reveals a new layer of Nepal’s natural beauty, making the trek feel like a continuous transition through different ecological and cultural zones.

What truly defines the Manaslu Circuit in 2026 is its carefully managed trekking system. As a restricted region, the area requires special permits and a licensed guide, ensuring that tourism remains controlled and sustainable. This system helps preserve fragile mountain ecosystems, protects traditional Himalayan communities, and limits overcrowding on the trails.

The region is also deeply rich in culture, with strong Tibetan Buddhist influences in the upper valleys and traditional Hindu communities in the lower regions. Along the route, trekkers encounter ancient monasteries, prayer flags, stone mani walls, and remote villages where centuries-old traditions are still an active part of daily life.

In 2026, the Manaslu Circuit Trek represents more than just a challenging Himalayan adventure—it reflects a growing shift toward responsible and sustainable trekking in Nepal. With its balance of natural beauty, cultural depth, and environmental protection, it offers a raw and authentic experience that feels increasingly rare in today’s modern trekking world.

High-Altitude Ecology: Snow Leopards and Blue Sheep

The Manaslu Conservation Area is an ecological haven for rare and endangered fauna. This biological post should detail the specific wildlife trekkers might encounter, particularly focusing on the sure-footed Himalayan blue sheep (bharal) which are commonly seen grazing on the sheer rocky slopes near Samdo and Larkya La. It must also touch upon the elusive, mythical status of the snow leopard, explaining how the region’s strict conservation efforts and the Tsum Valley’s ban on hunting are actively protecting these apex predators.

How to Overcome the Challenges:

You need to train specifically by starting cardio and leg strength training, and weekend hikes to the elevated regions at least 3 months before the scheduled trek.

Strictly follow the itinerary and the instructions of the guide. Walk at a slow pace to let your body adjust to the thin air at the elevation.

Invest in good, broken-in shoes and layered clothes. Buying or renting for sleeping bag will be helpful for the cold nights.

Drinking 3-4 litres of water daily is highly recommended. Eating carbohydrate-rich food to combat altitude sickness and maintain energy levels.

Cultural Immersion During Manaslu Circuit Trek

There will be a deep cultural immersion during our Manaslu Circuit Trek. Being inside the restricted region of Nepal, the villages and their cultures are preserved quite brilliantly throughout the centuries. There will be a profound and authentic cultural experience inside the restricted Nubri Valley, which has the undiluted Tibetan-Buddhist heritage. Unlike other commercial regions, the culture will feel more original and pure. The landscape will transform into a living museum of the ancient traditions as we walk past the endless mani walls.

The isolated villages like Sama Gaon and Samdo, the Numbri people still maintain the nomadic lifestyle largely untouched by modernity. We will witness the locals wearing their traditional attire, herding yaks, and living a slow village life. Manaslu Circuit Trek will be a reflective session and peak soaking.

Guide & Porter

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is led by a licensed, experienced English-speaking guide who ensures your safety, manages permits, and shares local cultural insights throughout the journey. Friendly and reliable porters carry your main luggage, allowing you to trek comfortably and enjoy the experience. Alpine Vista Treks is committed to fair wages, proper equipment, and ethical treatment of all staff.

Food and Accommodation

Food on the Trek

Food along the Manaslu Circuit trek will be served in the teahouse facilities. The menus will revolve around the high-energy giving food. The most common and highly recommended meal for lunch and dinner is Dal Bhat. Dal Bhat is a Nepali staple mixed of rice, lentil soup, vegetable curry, and pickles. Dal bhat will come with unlimited and free refills. For breakfast, you will have options like Tibetan bread, porridge, eggs, and bread. The other major menus will include pasta, momo, chowmein, noodles, and pizza in some teahouses. The options will shrink in the remote regions of Nubri Valley. However, there will be plenty of hearty and carbohydrate-rich meals to fuel energy on our trek.

 Accommodation on the Trek

Accommodation during our Manaslu Circuit Trek will be in the local teahouses or lodges. The teahouses will provide basic and comfortable lodging. A simple room will contain two beds with a mattress, pillow, and blanket. The bathrooms will be shared and basic throughout the trek. The communal dining hall is the heart of the trek, as this will provide the trekkers to enjoy the hot tea and reflect on the day’s trek with fellow trekkers.

The dining room is heated by the wood-burning stove at night, which makes it easy and comfortable to heat. The extras like internet, hot showers, and device charging are also available for a small fee. The nights can be very cold, hence having your own sleeping bag will be very necessary.

Wi-Fi & Network Facilities in Manaslu Circuit Trek

Wi-Fi and mobile network coverage are limited along the Manaslu Circuit Trek. Some teahouses offer paid Wi-Fi or internet services, but the connection can be slow and unreliable, especially at higher altitudes. Mobile signals are available in lower villages only. We recommend informing family in advance and enjoying the trek as a digital-light Himalayan experience.

Manaslu Circuit Trek Packing List (Gear Lists)

Surviving and enjoying the vast temperature swings of the Manaslu Circuit requires adherence to the “Three-Layer System”. You will transition from sweating in 25°C subtropical heat to freezing in -15°C alpine winds.

Travel Insurance

Travel Insurance for the Manaslu Circuit Trek is essential and non-negotiable. The primary danger is the sudden altitude gain of up to 5160m when we cross the Larkya La Pass. This will create a risk of catching altitude sickness, which can be a life-threatening emergency. Long trekking days on the rugged terrain are also another danger during this trek, which makes travel insurance even more important.

The Manaslu Circuit trail is a remote alpine terrain. If we suddenly catch the symptoms of altitude sickness or get injured, the most effective emergency response is helicopter evacuation only. Having travel insurance that reimburses hospital bills and helicopter evacuation costs will save you at least 8000 USD. That is why Alpine Vista Trails firmly advocates the requirement of Travel insurance added to your trip. It is your critical safety net that saves a potential financial catastrophe.

Conclusion

The Manaslu Circuit Trek with Alpine Vista Treks offers an exceptional Himalayan adventure combining remote trails, rich Tibetan-influenced culture, dramatic mountain scenery, and the thrill of crossing the Larkya La Pass. With professional guides, well-organized logistics, and a strong focus on safety and responsible trekking, this journey is ideal for trekkers seeking an authentic and rewarding experience in Nepal.

What an Adventure: Life Time Experience

What an adventure! A few months ago, my girlfriend and I booked the Manaslu Circuit Trek with Binot and his newly founded company, Alpine Vista Treks. We had no idea it would turn out to be such an amazing experience!

The guides, Umesh and Ronis, were fantastic: friendly, knowledgeable, and always in a good mood. We were guided personally by Umesh, who truly knows the Himalayas and always made us feel safe, even when the weather was challenging, putting our safety and satisfaction first.

The trek was full of excitement: breathtaking landscapes, interesting insights into Himalayan culture, and of course, incredible Mountain View’s! Thanks to the team’s experience, well-planned acclimatization and by walking bistari bistari, we didn’t have any issues with the altitude. We successfully reached Manaslu Base Camp and crossed the Larke Pass at 5,106 meters!

If you’re looking for an unforgettable adventure in the Himalayas, with great guides, beautiful scenery, and plenty of fun , I highly recommend booking the Manaslu Circuit with Alpine Vista Treks. It’s a trip you’ll always remember!

    Unforttable Experience

We did the tour with Rusne from Alpine Vista Trek and it was an excellent experience. Despite the bad weather conditions, the right decisions were made at every moment. The group was small, which made the experience more personal and enjoyable. Highly recommended
