This trek is considered among the challenging and achievable for trekkers with good fitness levels. The technical climbing is not required for this trek, but proper balance is mandatory. Alpine Vista Treks will do everything on our hands to protect you from the mishaps.
We will spend several days in the altitudes higher than 4500m, which will require us to acclimatize and careful pacing.
The Cho La Pass crossing involves a steep approach and icy sections on the rocks. This will become the toughest day of the trek.
We have to walk for more than 7-8 hours per day, especially when we cross the glaciers and passes.
The weather cannot be predicted easily. Sudden snowfall, cold winds, and flight delays at Lukla will add physical and mental strain to our journey.
Altitude sickness is a serious concern for the high-altitude treks like Gokyo Lakes with Everest Base Camp via Cho La Pass. This trek combines challenging steep ascents, high altitudes, glacier crossings, and extended walking hours. As we pass above the altitude of 3500m, symptoms like headache, nausea, or dizziness can worsen. That’s why we have made a strategic acclimatization and ascending process to adapt to the thinning air.
We will take scheduled acclimatization days and ascend gradually to adapt to the thinning air.
We have to recognize the symptoms like nausea, headache, hard breathing, etc, and descend or rest immediately for the safest response.
We have to stay hydrated with 3-4 litres of water every day and should drink fluids every day.
Carrying Diamox or recommended medicines will help in adaptation, but that should only be done with the doctor’s prescription.
The cultural experience during the trek is incredibly rich and soulful. We will be walking through the Sherpa Villages, where people will greet us with smiles. Life here revolves around the belief in Buddhism, farming, and hospitality. Monasteries resonate with the chants of monks, while families offer warm hospitality. The prayer flags will flutter, waving us over the stone houses and mani walls. The buzz during the festivals like Lhosar, Buddha Purnima, Dashain, and Tihar is amazing. The voyage to the Khumbu region will take us into a resilient, peaceful, and brave people and community who are very humble and kind in nature.
We will be served warm and freshly prepared food during the trek. The food options may not be wide, but they will be full of nutrient-rich options throughout well-selected teahouses. Alpine Vista Treks will make sure you get the best and hygienic food that supports energy at higher altitudes. The food will be of traditional Nepali staples like dal bhat in Tibetan style and local seasoning. The other meal options will be noodles, pancakes, spaghetti, and a few teahouses will have momo and pizza too. Vegetarian options are widely available, and we recommend having vegetarian or vegan options to balance the freshness of the food. Pre information about any dietary restrictions is kindly advised.
We will be staying in the clean and comfortable mountain lodges that are run and managed by the local people throughout the trek. Alpine Vista Treks will make sure each of the overnight stays will be pre-arranged, so you will have access to a comfortable stay even during the peak season. Teahouses along the trail provide cozy blankets, twin beds, pillows, and shared dining halls warmed by stoves.
Few teahouses in the lower and accessible region will provide electric heaters and hot showers as well. Almost every teahouse in Lukla, Namche Bazaar, and Gokyo Village will provide the facility of internet access. We will get the best possible amenity on the route that offers us a restful and comfortable night.

This high-altitude trail will include flight cancellations at Lukla, as there are chances of sudden weather shifts. This trek takes us to altitudes over 5000m many times, so the risks of altitude sickness and injuries are always lingering in your way.
